Slovenia is criss-crossed by nearly 10,000km of waymarked hiking routes through mountains and countryside of incomparable and completely unspoiled beauty.
There is an excellent selection of mountain huts scattered throughout Slovenia where you will be welcomed with delicious Slovene food, a cold beer or the traditional walker’s pick-me-up of a glass of ‘borovnicevec’ (blueberry brandy) and a cup of ‘caj’ (herbal tea). It is quite simply paradise.
Slovenia is often called “Europe in miniature” for the glorious variety of its scenery, including fairytale castles, alpine flower meadows, gorges and ravines, crystal clear lakes and rivers, high limestone peaks and extensive karst caves. We genuinely think it’s far more beautiful than Switzerland, Austria etc – it just hasn’t been discovered yet!
Hiking in Slovenia is fantastic year round, and there really are endless opportunities. We have a selection of guide books at the chalet for our guests to use, but you should also buy a map – available from tourist offices.
Sturdy but comfortable hiking boots are essential, and we’d also strongly recommend walking poles, as well as spare clothing and refreshments.
