With its translucent emerald green rivers and lakes, you really should do some form of watersport while you’re in Slovenia. It’s a major attraction for the country and the choices are endless, from easy family activities to extreme adrenalin adventures.
Whilst the Soca river is undoubtedly the biggest river and also the most developed in terms of water sports, it is about 1½ hours from Chalet Lenart. But don’t worry; there are many other places within easy reach that are just as beautiful.
Lake Bled: Bled is only 30 minutes away and provides a great day trip as it has many organised activities available. You can take out a rowing boat, swim in the crystal clear turquoise water, or go on a rafting or kayaking trip.
Lake Bohinj: is 20 minutes further on from Bled and is much quieter and probably even more stunning. PacSports is situated here and organises fun rafting trips down the Sava river, and awesome canyoning of various degrees of difficulty. Or you can just laze by the lake, have a swim and take out a kayak or rowing boat.
Luce: if you want to travel off the tourist trail, we’ve recently discovered Luce, in the mountains behind Chalet Lenart. It’s an hour’s drive on mountain roads through gorgeous scenery and is definitely worth the trip. It’s an undiscovered village close to the stunning Logarska Dolina, an impossibly gorgeous Alpine valley carpeted with flower-speckled meadows and hemmed in by a crest of jagged peaks. There’s a small outdoors adventure company, Adventure Valley, that organizes various mountain biking, rafting, kayaking and canyoning trips on the beautiful Savinja river.
Krka River: just under an hour from Chalet Lenart, the Krka river offers fantastic kayaking opportunities, especially for those who want a bit of an adventure. Former Olympian and top white-water kayaker Borut Javornik takes people out on the river, which is known for its weirs formed from travertine deposits. The river is completely unspoiled and you paddle in the company of trout, ducks and storks, with your day being rounded off by a delicious meal. We haven’t done it yet, but understand it’s fantastic fun!
